It was my best first experience in the end of 2019!
So, my friend Yuka, asked me to take holiday to Gili Trawangan together. And yeah, even I am Indonesian and living in Bali, I never visit Gili Trawangan before. I actually have no much time for do that. But, at that time, I accepted her and want to try something new.
Yuka is a one of student from Policy Science program, and she is learning about sea and nature. She really loves sea. So, I joined her to snorkeling in Gili Trawangan. It was my first time, and so excited!
We started around 2 p.m and glad the weather is so good and hot. The sky was so clear, and the ocean also. The color is torquoise, so bright and clean. I never know that ocean in Indonesia is so pretty like that. Yuka and I are catched by the same boat with the other Japanese guests. I am the only one Indonesian guest right there.
And then, time for splash out! For me, because it was my first time, little bit to adapted to breath from mouth. Little bit panicked, but time by time, I can do it. Oh my God, world under the sea is really beautiful! So pretty and it’s my first time to saw it with my own eyes. Not from screen, not from television or youtube. I though I am thalassophobia (fear of ocean) but actually I am not! I really enjoyed it!
Gili Trawangan ocean have big statues under the sea, and we can take photo there. People who accompany to snorkeling will help you to take your photo. Kind of camera that you can use is Go Pro. But, If you don’t bring it, don’t worry. There’s so many places who rented Go Pro in Gili Trawangan. But my advice is, don’t use your phone even it already covered by plastic protector to do snorkeling. It takes big risk, and sea water is so dangerous for phone machine.

So many fishes we can se in Gili. There are clown fish, parrot fish (so many parrot fishes and I am so excited can saw them by myself!) Paracanthurus hepatus (Dory from Finding Nemo) and many more tropical fishes. We also met turtle! So cute! We was swimming with turtle in the ocean.
I want to touch it, but Yuka not allowed it. We can’t touch or lift ocean animals for so many reasons. Because, we don’t know they are dangerous or not. Maybe, they can attack you. Also, touch them can makes animals feel stress and it so horrible. Oh, I got new knowledge about attitude while do snorkeling or diving. Yeah, it’s important to know.
We did snorkeling about almost 3 hours and visited 3 spots. Even so tired, but I satisfied! You know, the price is about USD 14.3 (IDR 200.000), not expensive but so worth it!
From this experience, what I got not just about having fun under the sea. I learned about our responsibility as a human, to keep clean the ocean, and make all of animals living peacefully. They are priceless, and not being selfish or just think about ourself, but think also about animals and nature. I recommend you to do snorkeling or diving also to gaining your sea-love in your heart.
